Position Summary

The Environmental Services Technician level I is responsible for executing the daily duties required to establish and maintain a safe, clean, healing environment. Responsible for ensuring daily room cleaning and timely room turnaround times related to patient throughput within the basic principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention. The Environmental Services Technician, in accordance with organizational standards of quality, is an essential contributor to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention, and customer experience.

Responsibilities

  1. Respond to inquiries or complaints from customers using appropriate engagement techniques.
  2. Clean and disinfect patient rooms and ancillary areas, including bathrooms, public areas, corridors, medication storage rooms, and other areas as directed, using designated chemicals and procedures.
  3. Access and use department-related technology systems, such as Bed Management systems.
  4. Replenish supplies, remove biomedical waste, trash, and soiled linen daily, and change curtains as needed.
  5. Perform daily cleaning of patient rooms and bathrooms to accommodate discharges and admissions, following approved procedures and using Bed Management systems where applicable.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge of healthcare cleaning principles, proper chemical use, equipment handling, and labor-saving products.
  7. Adhere to safety, risk management, and infection control guidelines, promoting a culture of safety.
  8. Operate UV disinfection machines as needed.
  9. Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives to enhance customer experience and cleanliness metrics.
  10. Follow infection prevention practices, including proper cleaning, disinfection, hand hygiene, and use of PPE.
  11. Recognize and adhere to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
  12. Report unsafe situations and submit engineering service requests for repairs.
  13. Communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.
  14. Maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with policies and regulations.
  15. Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.
