Position Summary:

The Environmental Services Technician I is responsible for executing daily duties to establish and maintain a safe, clean, healing environment. This includes ensuring timely room cleaning and turnaround times related to patient throughput, following principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention. The technician contributes to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention, and customer experience, adhering to organizational standards of quality.

Responsibilities:

1. Respond to inquiries or complaints from customers using appropriate engagement techniques.
2. Clean and disinfect patient rooms and ancillary areas, including bathrooms, public areas, corridors, and medication storage rooms, using designated chemicals and procedures.
3. Access and use department-related technology systems, such as Bed Management systems.
4. Replenish supplies, remove biomedical waste, trash, and soiled linen, and change curtains as needed.
5. Complete daily cleaning of patient rooms and bathrooms to accommodate discharges and admissions, following approved procedures.
6. Demonstrate knowledge of healthcare cleaning principles, chemical use, equipment handling, and labor-saving products.
7. Follow safety, risk management, and infection control guidelines, promoting a culture of safety.
8. Operate UV disinfection machines as needed.
9. Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives.
10. Follow infection prevention practices, including proper cleaning, disinfection, hand hygiene, and PPE protocols.
11. Adhere to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
12. Report unsafe situations and submit repair requests.
13. Communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
14. Maintain regular, punctual attendance per organizational policies.
15. Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions:

1. Use computers and mobile devices effectively for daily tasks.
2. Understand facility safety requirements.
3. Operate and maintain EVS tools and equipment properly.
4. Assist with setting up and dismantling beds for cleaning.
5. Perform other tasks as assigned by EVS leadership.
6. Communicate openly and respectfully with colleagues.
