Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Regulatory Specialist to provide technical leadership for Environmental Services projects in Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region. You will lead permitting strategy, coordinate field surveys, and interface with agencies to support utilities, transmission, and infrastructure initiatives.

The role requires deep knowledge of Maryland and federal environmental laws, strong writing and negotiation skills, and the ability to mentor staff while delivering compliant solutions on

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Biological Sciences, Environmental Studies, Policy, Planning, Geology, or related discipline preferred.
• 8+ years of regulatory experience in environmental field.
• Maryland Forest Conservation Act Qualified Professional, Certified Arborist, and/or Professional Wetland Scientist preferred.

Responsibilities

• Executing environmental permitting strategy and directing field surveys for projects.
• Conducting wetland, forest stand, and other delineations; mentoring junior staff.
• Preparing permit applications (Section 404/401) and coordinating with agencies.
• Preparing technical reports and coordinating with Maryland and federal agencies (MDE, MD DNR, USACE, USFWS, EPA).
• Coordinating wetland delineations, forest delineations, and related assessments.
• Leading Forest Conservation Plan, Critical Area, and Tier II submissions.
• QA/QC reviews of environmental deliverables.
• Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure compliant project execution.
• Supporting HSSE policies and coordinating with HSSE professionals.
