North American Coal is seeking an Environmental Science, Wildlife, or Biology student for a surface mine internship. The program offers 3-month (May–Aug 2027) or 8-month (May–Dec 2027) options, designed to expose students to field and office work while advancing their degree.
Duties include vegetation assessment, wildlife monitoring, water sampling, data reporting, field measurements, and AutoCAD map production. Safety rules, MSHA compliance, and PPE are required.
Employee Type: Intern (Trainee)This program is designed for students currently pursuing a two- or four-year degree, who have completed a portion of their curriculum, and will be completing the program after the internship experience. It is not designed for graduates. Falkirk looks at this position as an opportunity to expose an Environmental Science, Wildlife, or Biology student to a varied field and office experience. At the same time Falkirk will use the individual time to accomplish tasks that will benefit the operation. The successful applicant will require knowledge of plant/wildlife identification and the use of taxonomic keys. They should have strong computer skills (experience with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD are a plus).
3-month position (May 2027 through August 2027)

NOTE: This position requires working rotating shifts. The role involves approximately 80% indoor work and 20% outdoor work. Employees must be able to work while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to steel-toe boots, safety glasses, a hard hat, face shield, and respirator. Must also successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and the applicable Job Function Test (JFT).
