The Falkirk Mining Company in Underwood, IA is offering an Intern (Trainee) position for engineering/surveying students. The 3‑ or 8‑month programs run May 2027 through December 2027, with an hourly starting range of $25.88–$29.11.
The role mixes office tasks with field surveying, safety compliance, and project support in a real mine environment. Eligibility: enrolled in an accredited program with at least 1 year of college completed, a valid driver’s license, and steel‑toed shoes.
Employee Type: Intern (Trainee)This program is designed for students currently pursuing a two- or four-year degree, who have completed a portion of their curriculum, and will be completing their program after the internship experience. It is not designed for graduates. Falkirk looks at this position as an opportunity to expose an Engineer/Surveying student to a working operation and show the individual how an engineering group functions in a working operation. At the same time, Falkirk will utilize the individual's time to accomplish tasks that will benefit the operation. This is an excellent opportunity to get real world experience in a high energy and fun work environment. The successful applicant should have strong computer skills (experience with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD are a plus). 3-month position (May 2027 through August 2027)
8-month position (May 2027 through December 2027)

NOTE: This position requires working rotating shifts. The role involves approximately 80% indoor work and 20% outdoor work. Employees must be able to work while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to steel-toe boots, safety glasses, a hard hat, face shield, and respirator. Must also successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and the applicable Job Function Test (JFT).
