The Falkirk Mining Company in Iowa - Underwood is offering an internship for Environmental Science, Wildlife, or Biology students. The 3- or 8-month programs provide exposure to field and office tasks at a surface coal mine, with duties spanning vegetation mapping, wildlife monitoring, water sampling, and AutoCAD map production.
Participants must be enrolled in an accredited program, have a valid driver's license, and be able to work outdoors in varying weather.

Employee Type: Intern (Trainee)This program is designed for students currently pursuing a two- or four-year degree, who have completed a portion of their curriculum, and will be completing their program after the internship experience. It is not designed for graduates. Falkirk looks at this position as an opportunity to expose an Environmental Science, Wildlife, or Biology student to a varied field and office experience. At the same time Falkirk will utilize the individual time to accomplish tasks that will benefit the operation. The successful applicant will require knowledge of plant/wildlife identification and the use of taxonomic keys. They should have strong computer skills (experience with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD are a plus).
3-month position (May 2027 through August 2027)
8-month position (May 2027 through December 2027)

This position requires working rotating shifts. The role involves approximately 80% indoor work and 20% outdoor work. Employees must be able to work while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to steel-toe boots, safety glasses, a hard hat, face shield, and respirator. Must also successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and the applicable Job Function Test (JFT).
