NACCO Industries, Inc. seeks an Environmental Intern for a 3- to 8-month program based near Underwood, ND. The role blends fieldwork in vegetation and wildlife surveys with GIS/mapping tasks and data reporting.

You will learn environmental monitoring, regulatory compliance, and site operations. Access to PPE and safety training provided. The internship emphasizes hands-on experience in a surface coal mining context, with outdoor work, rotating shifts, and opportunities to gain office computing

Qualifications

• Enrolled in accredited engineering/surveying program and in good academic standing.
• Completed a portion of college in the associated field and intends to complete the degree.
• Applicants need to have a valid driver’s license.
• Able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
• Steel-toed Shoes required.

Responsibilities

• Vegetation assessment and mapping on reclaimed wetlands and shelterbelts.
• Wildlife monitoring on pre-mine and post-mine areas; compile data reports for wildlife agencies.
• Ground/surface water monitoring and sampling at multiple sites near the mine.
• Assist survey crew with fieldwork and office computations; produce and modify mine site maps with AutoCAD.

These duties may include all or some of the following:* Vegetation assessment and mapping on reclaimed wetlands and shelterbelts.* Wildlife monitoring on pre-mine and post-mine areas.
