Description

GAI Consultants is seeking an Environmental Specialist with experience in Field Compliance Monitoring to be based out of our Warrenton, VA office, within our Energy Business Unit. This position is fully remote but will require travel to various project sites. Applicants should enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment. This position offers an excellent opportunity to expand knowledge in federal and state environmental regulations, primarily in Pennsylvania, with opportunities in West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia.

The successful candidate will serve as a field lead to perform various assignments, including but not limited to the responsibilities listed below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Perform field monitoring of erosion and sediment controls on construction projects, working independently.
2. Review specifications, permits, and permit conditions related to site and linear construction projects.
3. Prepare and review monitoring reports based on field observations, submitting reports as required.
4. Assist in preparing environmental reports, permit applications, and closeout requests, such as wetland delineation reports and erosion control plans.
5. Adhere to Health and Safety requirements of GAI Consultants and clients.
6. Maintain QA/QC standards and follow GAI's Quality Management System procedures.

Qualifications

Required:

• Excellent communication skills and technical writing ability.
• Proficiency with GPS devices and Microsoft Office applications.
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass screening for driving GAI vehicles.
• Flexibility and willingness to travel, including overnight stays.

Preferred:

• Associates degree in engineering, environmental science, or related field.
• 2-4 years of field monitoring experience, especially in erosion and sediment control.
• Experience with environmental due diligence and NPDES regulations.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and GIS software.
• Relevant certifications such as Qualified Environmental Inspector or Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector.

Physical Demands and Other Information:

• Ability to walk in remote terrains and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Candidates must pass a drug screening.

Additional Characteristics and Experience:

• Critical thinking skills, project assistance, and adherence to quality standards.
• Minimum 4+ years of experience and a Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences or similar.

Technical Responsibilities:

• Leading field studies, data collection, and document generation.
• Knowledge of wetland delineations, endangered species surveys, and environmental regulations.

Project Management and Communication:

• Team collaboration, schedule and budget management, and effective communication with clients and team members.
