Job description

GAI Consultants - Environmental Specialist (Field Compliance Monitoring)

GAI Consultants is seeking an Environmental Specialist with experience in Field Compliance Monitoring to be based out of our Reading, PA office, within our Energy Business Unit. This position is fully remote but will require travel to various project sites. Applicants should enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment. This role offers an excellent opportunity to expand knowledge in federal and state environmental regulations, primarily in Pennsylvania, with opportunities in West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia.

The successful candidate will serve as a field lead to perform various assignments with minimal supervision, including but not limited to:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Perform field monitoring of erosion and sediment controls on construction projects, working independently.
  2. Review specifications, permits, and permit conditions related to site and linear construction projects.
  3. Prepare and review monitoring reports based on field observations, submitted in paper or electronic formats.
  4. Assist in preparing environmental reports, permit applications, and closeout requests such as wetland delineation reports and erosion control plans.
  5. Adhere to Health and Safety requirements of GAI Consultants and clients.
  6. Maintain QA/QC standards and follow GAI's Quality Management System procedures.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including technical writing.
  • Proficiency with GPS and electronic data collection devices.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and MS Office applications, including report and database management.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass screening for driving GAI vehicles.
  • Flexibility to travel, potentially 75%, including driving long distances and overnight stays.
Preferred:
  • Associates degree or higher in engineering, environmental science, or related field.
  • 2-4 years of field monitoring experience, especially in erosion and sediment control.
  • Experience with environmental due diligence, NPDES regulations, and BMP designs.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS (ArcGIS), and environmental compliance areas such as air quality and spill response.
Physical Demands & Other Information
  • Ability to walk moderate distances over varied terrain.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to recognize hazards during fieldwork.
  • Pass a drug screening upon employment.
Additional Characteristics

Demonstrates critical thinking, works on small projects or parts of larger projects, and supports project quality and delivery.

Experience & Education
  • Minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences or similar.
Technical & Project Management Skills

Experience in leading field studies, data analysis, regulatory research, wetland delineation, and specialized disciplines. Ability to assist with scheduling, budgeting, and team coordination.

Communication Skills

Effective oral and written communication, client interaction, and teamwork skills.
