Job description

GAI Consultants is seeking an Environmental Specialist with experience in Field Compliance Monitoring to be based out of our Warrenton, VA office, within our Energy Business Unit. This position is fully remote but will require travel to various project sites. Applicants should enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment. This position offers an excellent opportunity to expand experience and knowledge in federal and state environmental regulations, primarily in Pennsylvania, with opportunities in West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia.

The successful candidate will serve as a field lead to perform, with minimal supervision, various assignments including:

1. Performing field monitoring of erosion and sediment (E&S) controls on construction projects.
2. Reviewing specifications, permits, and permit conditions related to site and linear construction projects.
3. Preparing and reviewing periodic monitoring reports based on field observations.
4. Assisting with environmental reports, permit applications, and closeout requests such as wetland delineation reports and erosion control plans.
5. Adhering to Health and Safety requirements of GAI Consultants and clients.
6. Maintaining QA/QC standards and following GAI's Quality Management System procedures.

Qualifications include:

• Excellent communication skills and technical writing ability.
• Proficiency with GPS and MS Office applications.
• A valid driver's license and ability to pass screening for driving GAI vehicles.
• Willingness to travel extensively, including overnight stays.

Preferred qualifications are:

• Associates degree or higher in environmental or related sciences.
• 2-4 years of field monitoring experience, especially in E&S control.
• Experience with environmental due diligence and NPDES regulations.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and GIS.
• Relevant certifications such as Qualified Environmental Inspector or Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector.

Physical demands include walking on unimproved terrain, lifting up to 50 pounds, and field hazard awareness. Candidates must pass drug screening.

Minimum experience required is 4+ years, with a bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences or similar. The role involves leading field studies, data collection, and technical documentation, with guidance from senior staff. Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team are essential.
