Job summary

The Hartford is seeking an Environmental Claims Specialist within the Complex Claims Unit (CCU) to independently manage the most complex, high-value environmental and pollution claims. This role requires deep knowledge of general liability, long-tail exposures, and litigation coordination with internal teams and external partners.

Ideal candidates will have 5+ years in general liability claim handling with environmental claims, strong analytical skills, and ability to lead negotiations and risk

Qualifications

• 5+ years general liability claim handling experience with environmental or other latent injury claims or claims under affirmative pollution coverages.
• Experience in handling affirmative/defensive risk transfer; including additional insured tenders.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent analytical and critical thinking ability.
• Ability to present in a roundtable setting with a well-reasoned and analytical evaluation.
• Proficiency with MS Office, especially Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Manage the most complex, high-value claims with detailed knowledge of claim file and strategy for resolution.
• Participate in audits, projects and training to share expertise and drive unit goals.
• Provide proactive communications to customers and business partners during claims process.
• Review and analyze multiple complex policies and coverage parts including general liability and pollution coverages.
• Write clear, concise, and accurate coverage positions and conduct investigations or lawsuits as needed.
• Manage litigation planning, budgeting and position claims for resolution; negotiate settlements.
• Develop and articulate complex coverage, liability and damage assessments; provide leadership input.
