Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps member serves as a student success coach and mentor in elementary through high school, focusing on helping students earn academic progress, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors. You will plan and monitor individual student goals and work with teachers on in-class support, literacy and math activities, and targeted interventions.

City Year provides 2–4 weeks of training at the start, a bi-weekly living stipend, and benefits including health, dental and vision

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident; work authorization in the U.S. required.
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have GED or high school diploma (some college or degree acceptable).
• Have served no more than three AmeriCorps terms.
• Agree to a background check.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group coaching and mentoring.
• Develop literacy and math activities tailored to student level.
• Create and implement behavior management systems.
• Record student progress and collaborate with teachers.
• Support whole-school events and extended programs.
• Maintain a safe, engaging classroom space.
