Job summary

SGS is seeking an entry-level Sample Custody Specialist for the Wilmington, NC laboratory to join the Sample Management team. You will greet clients, receive samples, prepare bottle kits, and relay samples to the labs while keeping accurate COI records and documentation.

Key duties include applying labels, scanning submission documents, storing samples properly, and assisting with shipping to clients and other SGS locations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required.
• Experience in an environmental laboratory is preferred.
• Associate degree in a science-related field is preferred.
• Advanced English language skills are required.
• Basic mathematical and reasoning skills are required.
• Ability to lift/carry/push and/or pull up to 50 lbs on a constant basis is required.

Responsibilities

• Greets clients dropping off samples in a professional and courteous manner.
• Receives samples directly from clients or third-party couriers.
• Unpacks sample coolers and containers and documents sample receipt, and organizes samples in an efficient and timely manner.
• Verifies and records sample receipt condition/temperatures, as applicable.
• Creates jobs, enters bottle/sample media records, and generates bottle/sample labels using LIMS in accordance with chain of custody (COC).
• Scans COCs and any other supporting sample submission documents.
• Applies sample labels to sample containers.
• Transfers samples between sample reception, cold or ambient storage areas, and laboratory departments.
• Ships samples, coolers, sample media and packages to clients and other SGS locations.
• Maintains all required documentation with accuracy and clarity.
• Removes historical samples from completed jobs and assigns samples for disposal; disposes of expired samples.
• Communicates sample information to Client Services team and lab operations to ensure timely issue resolution.
• Adheres to lab and sample management SOPs to ensure that proper sampling handling procedures are followed.
• Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external clients.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
