Job summary

Sysco Detroit is hiring a Fleet Technician 1 to learn and perform preventive maintenance and repairs on tractors, trailers, and related equipment. The role emphasizes safety, reliability, and cost efficiency across the fleet, with extensive on-the-job training and collaboration with a fleet team.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent and some tech training in heavy-duty trucks. A valid driver's license is required, with CDL-A preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2-year technical training in Medium/Heavy Duty trucking.
• Current and valid driver's license; CDL-A preferred.
• Basic knowledge of vehicle systems and components.
• Basic welding and cutting (gas, electric, MIG, TIG).
• Physical requirements: stand, walk, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl.

Responsibilities

• Learn to perform required inspections and preventive maintenance under supervision.
• Learn to perform maintenance repairs on vehicles, including inspections, repairs, and road-call work.
• Diagnose causes of malfunctions and perform repairs to engines, transmissions, fuel and ignition systems, exhaust, HVAC, and brake systems.
• Document all work in SAP with proper format (problem, cause, correction).
• Decide if equipment is roadworthy and meets DOT regulations before release to operations.
• Collaborate with management to create a prioritized work schedule taking operations needs into account.
