Job summary

ASM Research, An Accenture Federal Services Company, seeks a Junior Cybersecurity Incident Response Engineer to monitor enterprise security tools and review logs for potential threats targeting mission-critical systems in a highly regulated federal IT environment.

You will assist with containment and recovery under guidance, document investigations, and help tune security controls to improve detection fidelity while collaborating with IT, operations, and risk teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, CS, Cybersecurity, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 0–3 years in cybersecurity, IT operations, or related roles with security monitoring and triage.
• Foundational understanding of cybersecurity concepts and SOC processes.
• Hands-on familiarity with SIEM, firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, or vulnerability scanners.
• Active SECRET clearance or ability to obtain and maintain required clearance.
• U.S. citizenship required to support federal information security requirements.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor SIEM and security tooling to review events and identify suspicious patterns.
• Perform Tier 1 alert triage by validating context, severity, and impact.
• Assist with incident response: gather evidence and support containment under guidance.
• Document investigations with timelines, data sources, actions, and handoffs.
• Maintain familiarity with security technologies and interpret alerts within SOC tools.
• Follow SOC procedures and improve playbooks and reporting formats.
• Support tuning of rules and dashboards to reduce noise and improve detection.
• Collaborate with IT, operations, and risk teams to align with policies and priorities.
