Job summary

State of West Virginia's Bureau for Child Support Enforcement seeks an entry-level Caseworker in Jackson County. Under close supervision you will participate in training to learn child support laws, regulations, and programs, perform beginning level case work, and assist in processing cases through location, case development, and initial notices to non-custodial parents.

During the training you will gain knowledge to manage a caseload independently, with monthly supervisory progress evaluations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; substitution: paralegal or legal secretarial training may substitute for two years of the required training
• Full-time or equivalent part‑time experience in a legal setting requiring legal research, reading laws, preparing legal documents under supervision
• Experience in debt collections, credit investigations, criminal investigations, law enforcement, accounting, or auditing is acceptable
• May substitute one year of experience for every thirty semester hours of training
• Special requirement: valid driver’s license and vehicle availability may be required

Responsibilities

• Under close supervision, performs entry-level child support enforcement work during training
• Process cases through location, case development and initial notices to non-custodial parents
• Acquire knowledge to independently manage a caseload in child support enforcement
• Prepare case files for the BCSE Attorney
• Respond to customer service inquiries and compose routine confidential correspondence
