Job summary

WV Department of Human Services in West Virginia is seeking an entry-level Caseworker for the Bureau for Child Support Enforcement in Jackson County. The role focuses on training in child support laws, location of parents and assets, calculating support, and preparing case files for the BCSE Attorney.

You will handle routine customer service inquiries and maintain confidential information, progressing toward independent caseload management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Paralegal or legal secretarial training may substitute for two years of the required training.
• Full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in a legal setting with legal research, reading and interpreting laws, preparing legal documents and assisting in case file preparation under attorney supervision.
• Experience in debt collections, credit investigations, criminal investigations, law enforcement, accounting, or auditing.
• Experience as an Economic Service Worker or Family Support Specialist.
• One year of experience may substitute for required training per 30 semester hours of training.
• May be required to have a valid driver’s license and vehicle for continuous use.

Responsibilities

• Perform entry-level child support case work including processing cases, locating parents, developing cases, and notifying non-custodial parents of obligations.
• Acquire knowledge leading to independent caseload management in child support enforcement.
• Research statutes, court opinions, rules and regulations, and review public documents to compile case information.
• Prepare case files for BCSE Attorney and respond to customer service inquiries, resolving less complex issues.
• Compose routine correspondence and maintain confidentiality of information.
