Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to help them achieve academic success and better attendance across elementary to high school levels in Kansas Hillsdale. You will engage with teachers, plan progress, and support whole-class and small-group learning.

Training is provided at the start of the year, with opportunities to participate in after-school programs, enrichment activities, and service projects that build leadership and community impact.

Qualifications

• Experience in all these tasks is not necessary; 2–4 weeks of training at the beginning of the year are provided.
• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident; authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025.
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program.
• Agree to and complete a background check.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups to promote academic success and attendance.
• Plan and monitor individual student progress and collaborate with teachers on classroom instruction.
• Support academic coaching and interpersonal development for students through proven strategies.
• Help create an engaging, safe, and healthy classroom space in partnership with teachers.
• Support extended day and after-school programs, enrichment activities, and student clubs.
