Job summary

Scheels is seeking a Governance and Compliance Leader to build and own an enterprise risk management framework for our multistate retail business. You will report to the General Counsel within Legal, Risk & Compliance and partner with leaders across the company to identify, analyze, prioritize, and report on risks impacting Scheels and its strategic goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, or related field.
• 5–7+ years of experience in enterprise risk management, internal audit, compliance, financial/risk analysis, or a related field.
• Experience designing or maturing an ERM or compliance program is strongly preferred.
• Experience in retail or multi-state environments preferred.
• Strong analytical thinking with the ability to see the big picture and connect risks across the business.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly to leadership.
• Proven ability to build relationships, influence, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Create a practical, scalable risk management program tailored for Scheels using COSO/ISO 31000 to set up rules, processes, and oversight.
• Develop and maintain the company's risk universe, appetite guidance, rating criteria, and register.
• Lead recurring enterprise risk assessment cycles with leadership teams across the company.
• Continuously improve the risk program to handle new threats, industry changes, and lessons learned.
• Partner with business and leadership teams to identify, analyze, and report risks.
• Develop risk response and mitigation plans with risk owners and monitor progress.
• Create risk indicators and monitoring tools to track trends over time.
• Deliver clear, decision-ready risk reporting to the executive committee and stakeholders.
