Job summary

NC Department of Transportation seeks an Engineering Technician III located in the Division 6 District 2 office. The role focuses on reviewing driveway permits, site plans, and related encroachment agreements, plus performing on-site inspections for compliance with DOT standards.

The position requires an Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or related field and 3 years of progressive technician experience, with strong communication and team collaboration skills and the ability to work

Qualifications

Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or related field.
Three years of progressive technician level experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to review construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures.

Responsibilities

Process and review driveway permits, site plans, encroachment agreements, subdivision plans and road additions/abandonments.
Perform on-site inspections for compliance with NCDOT specifications for driveways, encroachments, and subdivisions.
Conduct pre-construction meetings with requesting parties.
Prepare deficiency letters related to road additions, driveways, and encroachments.
Meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners to discuss policies and address questions or complaints.
Assist the Division during emergencies and inclement weather; support District Engineer as needed.
Provide telephone and on-site technical assistance to inspectors, developers, contractors, engineers, and the public.
Possess knowledge of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
Must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle; safety toe shoes required.
