Job summary

The Department of Transportation in North Carolina is seeking an Engineering Technician III for District 2 Permitting. You will review driveway permits, site plans, encroachment agreements, and subdivision plans, and perform on-site inspections to ensure compliance with DOT specifications.

You will conduct pre-construction meetings, interact with utility reps, contractors and property owners, and prepare deficiency letters.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Survey Technology or a related discipline plus three years of progressive technician level experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
Computer experience including office software and drafting software.

Responsibilities

Process and review driveway permits, site plans, utility and non-utility encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions/abandonments.
Perform on-site inspections for compliance with NCDOT specifications.
Conduct pre-construction meetings with requesting parties; meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies and address questions/complaints.
Prepare deficiency letters related to road additions, driveway permits, and encroachments.
Assist the Division during emergencies and inclement weather; assist the District Engineer as assigned.
