Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach is seeking an Engineering Technician I/II to join the Division of Planning Administration within the Department of Planning and Community Development. The final level (I or II) will be determined by qualifications and offered accordingly.

Responsibilities include project review, coordination, and compliance tasks across waterfront projects, stormwater systems, and site planning with occasional fieldwork.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology.
• Experience in Land Development site plan or subdivision plan design or review.
• Experience with stormwater management, open channel and piped drainage systems, hydrology and hydraulics.
• Experience with stormwater modeling software (SWMM) or other stormwater design software.
• Design or review of streets, pavement design, site grading, water and sewer systems.
• Knowledge of state/local design/resource manuals and local ordinances related to stormwater and land development.

Responsibilities

• Complete project review, review coordination, compliance review and corrective action tasks.
• Assist Environmental Planning staff with waterfront construction applications and buffer restoration.
• Prepare and present small area project reviews to the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area Board.
• Write comments explaining revisions for site plan submittals and review letters.
• Coordinate preconstruction meetings and assist with field inspections and site visits.
• Assist customers in person, by phone and email; manage multiple tasks and schedules.
