The City of Virginia Beach is recruiting for an Engineering Technician I/II to join the Division of Planning Administration with the Department of Planning and Community Development.
Actual job level (e.g. Engineering Technician I or II) will be determined on the qualifications of the selected applicant and made part of the job offer.

- Engineering Tech II: G.24 $54,579.20 $85,051.20
Specific duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Primarily responsible for completing project review, review coordination, compliance review, and corrective action tasks to assist Environmental Planning staff, to include:
- Waterfront construction applications
- Chesapeake Bay Prevention Area Septic Tank Pump out notices
- Preliminary Project Request Coordinator
- Chesapeake Bay buffer restoration compliance with permits & inspections
- Tree removal requests
- PPR Standards requests
- Coordination of preconstruction meetings
- May prepare and present small area projects to the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area Board
- Writing comments explaining required revisions associated with site plan submittals, Joint Permit Applications, review letters associated with encroachment request, and corrective actions letters to correct noncompliant field conditions associated with approved projects.
- Position requires occasional site visits to conduct site analysis, trouble shoot, compare approved plans with field conditions and provide resolution to Staff to resolve construction issues.
- Assist customers in a professional manner in person, by phone and email, participate in interoffice project meetings and manage multiple tasks at once. Must be organized and able to manage multiple schedules.
Preferred Candidate:
- Strong preference for a Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology.
- Experience in Land Development site plan or subdivision plan design or review.
- Experience with stormwater management, open channel and piped drainage systems, hydrology, and hydraulics.
- Experience with stormwater modeling software (specifically SWMM) or other stormwater design software.
- Design or review of streets, pavement design, site grading, water, and sewer systems.
- Experience with state and local design resource manuals and local code of ordinances related to stormwater management and land development design.
- DEQ stormwater or E&S Plan Reviewer Certification.
- Excellent written, verbal, and people skills.
- Drainage Design or Review
- Experience with modeling with EPA or PC SWMM software
