Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach’s Public Utilities seeks an Engineer I or II to support water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater projects, reviewing plans, performing design and construction tasks, and ensuring conformance with city and state requirements.

You will lead project management activities, conduct field investigations, and coordinate with departments and outside agencies; after six months, remote work options and flex days may apply, with a strong benefits package.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field, or an Associate’s Degree with six years of progressive engineering experience.
• Engineer II requires a Bachelor’s degree with E.I.T. certification and two years of professional experience.

Responsibilities

• Review construction plans for conformity with department and city specifications.
• Serve as project manager and engineer-in-charge for water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater projects.
• Perform contract administration for design and construction projects.
• Conduct field investigations, prepare reports, and maintain records.
• Coordinate with City departments, outside agencies, and contractors.
