Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a Stormwater Engineer II/III for the Development Services Center. This role involves reviewing site development and construction plans for compliance with regulations, conducting site visits, and offering customer assistance.

Qualifications

Job description

The City of Virginia Beach Development Services Center (DSC) with the Department of Planning and Community Development is seeking a Stormwater Engineer II/III to join our team. The DSC reviews and approves all site development plans for the City of Virginia Beach. The position may be classified as a Engineer II or Engineer III I depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Review site development plans, subdivision construction plans and as‑built surveys, plats, legal documents and cost estimates for conformance with City and State regulations, codes and policies;
  • Review and analyze stormwater management, drainage and grading, street improvements and other public and private infrastructure;
  • Writing comments explaining required revisions; approving development plans and associated engineering calculations and reports;
  • Position requires site visits to troubleshoot, compare plans with field conditions, and help resolve construction issues;
  • Assist customers in a professional manner in person, by phone and e‑mail, and participate in project meetings and staff team meetings to coordinate reviews;
  • Virginia DEQ certifications as a stormwater and E & S Reviewer required within one year of employment;
  • Review, coordinate, and respond to questions related to stormwater management modeling design;
  • Must have an understanding of local and state SWM regulations;
  • Must be knowledgeable of hydrologic and hydraulic stormwater computations and stormwater management routing calculations
