Job summary

Fivetran is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Metadata team, owning the discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history services that help customers understand and trust their data. You will guide high-throughput APIs, improve latency for enterprise and single-tenant customers, and partner with product to ship new discovery and catalog capabilities.

You’ll set direction, review designs, remove roadblocks, and develop engineers through coaching, feedback, and clear career progression

Qualifications

• Experience managing and growing a software engineering team with hiring, coaching, and career development.
• Strong ability to review designs and code and make sound architectural trade-offs in distributed cloud systems.
• Track record delivering complex projects on schedule with high quality and reliability.
• Experience owning production services and driving incident response, on-call, tech debt, and SLA adherence.
• Ability to plan with product partners, maintain a realistic backlog, and drive sprint/quarterly completion.
• Clear communication across teams and stakeholders; keeps others informed.
• Fluent in using AI code assistants and coding agents to support SDLC artifacts.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of software engineers, owning hiring, onboarding, coaching, and 1:1s.
• Own project delivery for your team against the quarterly plan and ensure reliability and latency targets.
• Review technical designs and code with a deep understanding of Metadata product area.
• Drive for technical quality: incidents, debt, post-mortems within SLA targets.
• Partner with product and business to plan and maintain the backlog with high completion.
• Contextualize engineering vision and strategy to the team and adjacent teams.
• Ensure engineering processes (e.g. FDLC) are implemented and followed.
• Delegate effectively and foster a positive, high-trust culture.
• Address performance issues and conflicts promptly and fairly.
• Encourage use of AI tooling to accelerate development and SDLC artifacts.
