System One in Pittsburgh, PA seeks an Engineering Department Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team across process, mechanical, geotechnical, civil, and EI&C engineering. You will supervise engineers, manage workload, and ensure technical excellence for projects in water, environmental services, and infrastructure.

Ideal candidates hold a PE license with 10+ years in energy/industrial sectors and 5+ years in leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field.
• 10+ years of engineering experience in energy or industrial sectors.
• 5+ years of leadership or supervisory experience managing engineering teams.
• 2+ years experience in the engineering consulting industry.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Strong understanding of multidisciplinary engineering project delivery.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Experience with cross-functional teams and complex projects.
• Strong writing skills for proposals and technical reports.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to a multidisciplinary engineering team.
• Manage departmental workload, staffing, and technical direction across projects.
• Support project managers in planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
• Review engineering deliverables for quality, compliance, and accuracy.
• Promote best practices, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and development of engineering staff.
• Coordinate across disciplines for efficient project execution and communication.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and industry standards.
• Support business development with technical insights during proposals.
