Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a senior energy consulting leader in Chicago. You will guide projects across generation, grid modernization, and energy campus planning, balancing technical work with executive-level decisions.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams, interact with utilities, investors, and project developers, and mentor junior staff while driving business development in a client-facing role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering with 15+ years in the power industry.
• Experience and technical knowledge across multiple power generation technologies.
• Experience leading teams of engineers and/or consultants.
• Prior consulting/advisory experience with client interaction and analytical work products.
• Experience with utilities, IPPs, developers, grid operators, or energy investors.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with quantitative models and financial analysis.
• Ability to produce clear deliverables and communicate complex topics to non-technical audiences.
• Experience leading client meetings and managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic planning projects with market, technology, and policy assessments.
• Lead and contribute to project economic analyses, risk assessments, and contracting strategies.
• Manage due diligence and owner’s engineering reviews for power projects.
• Provide client program management and governance improvements.
• Develop conceptual plans with technical teams to meet client needs.
• Present implementation strategies to executives and project teams.
• Translate technical findings into client-ready deliverables.
• Lead discrete workstreams within larger engagements.
• Coordinate day-to-day activities of junior team members and manage budget/scope.
• Mentor staff and contribute to business development and client relationships.
