Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a senior energy consultant in Chicago to lead strategic planning and project delivery for utilities, IPPs, and developers. You will oversee multidisciplinary teams, conduct economics and due diligence, and translate complex analyses into clear client deliverables within a client-facing, full-time role.

Hybrid work arrangement requires in-office presence 3 days per week. Strong leadership, consulting experience, and deep power industry knowledge are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering with 15+ years in the power industry.
• Experience and technical knowledge in multiple power generation technologies, including conventional and renewables.
• Experience managing teams of engineers and/or consultants.
• Prior management consulting or advisory experience with a consulting firm or energy company with direct client interaction.
• Demonstrated experience working with electric or gas utilities, IPPs, developers, grid operators, or energy investors.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including quantitative models and financial analysis.
• Proven ability to produce clear, well-structured deliverables and communicate complex topics to non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic planning projects, including market, technology, and policy assessments.
• Lead and contribute to project economics, risk analyses, and contracting strategies.
• Manage technical due diligence and owner’s engineering reviews for power projects.
• Provide client program and project management support, improving governance and controls.
• Develop conceptual plans with technical teams to meet client needs.
• Prepare and present implementation strategies to client executives.
• Translate complex findings into client-ready deliverables and reports.
• Lead workstreams within larger engagements and coordinate junior team members.
• Develop staff expertise through mentoring and business development contributions.
