Job summary

The City of Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an Event Support Assistant in Kentwood, MI. This hands-on role focuses on setting up, supporting, and tearing down events to bring community programs and celebrations to life.

You’ll work with staff and volunteers to ensure smooth operations, safe layouts, and positive participant experiences during events. This is an irregular part-time opportunity.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of experience in event support, setup, operations, or a related field.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with setup and teardown of event equipment, including tables, chairs, tents, stages, barricades, and signage.
• Load, unload, transport, and organize event supplies and materials.
• Arrange event layouts based on diagrams or supervisor instructions.
• Assemble and disassemble basic event equipment, ensuring safety and stability.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of event spaces before, during, and after events.
• Provide on-site support during events, including adjusting setups and assisting staff as needed.
• Follow safety procedures and use proper lifting techniques and protective equipment.
• Report equipment issues, safety concerns, or supply needs to supervisors.
• Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, vendors, and community partners.
• Deliver friendly, professional service when interacting with the public and event participants.
