Job summary

Alamance County Government is seeking Emergency Medical Technicians to provide high-level EMS care on a twenty-four-hour shift. You will respond to a range of emergencies, stabilize patients, and operate ambulances in both emergency and non-emergency scenarios.

Requirements include a High School diploma or equivalent, NC EMT certification, and a valid NC driver’s license. Continuing education and data-entry tasks are part of the role as well.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required and some EMT experience or an equivalent education/experience mix.
• State of NC EMT certification required.
• Valid NC driver's license required.
• Mandatory continuing education sessions provided by the department.
• Prior data-entry experience and Windows usage preferred.

Responsibilities

• Responds to emergency calls for medical illnesses, traumatic injuries, vehicle crashes, fires, and disasters with a partner.
• Monitor, inspect, and ensure ambulance readiness and equipment availability.
• Operate emergency medical vehicle to and from scenes and determine best routes.
• Record patient care data and demographics; document reactions to treatment.
• Provide care using EMT protocols, including basic/advanced airway management and medications.
• Transport patients safely using stretchers and loading systems.
• Prepare patient care reports for NC EMS data collection and billing compliance.
• Maintain contact with dispatch and receiving facilities.
• Initiate basic life support per protocols and physician orders.
• Communicate medical conditions with patients and families; coordinate with medical staff.
• Drive ambulances in emergency and non-emergency situations.
• Secure and dispose of biohazardous waste.
• Attend continuing education and certification maintenance sessions.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
