Job summary

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required and some experience as an Advanced EMT, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Possession of a valid NC driver's license is required.
• Certification by the State of North Carolina as an Advanced EMT.
• Mandatory continuing education sessions provided by the department.

Responsibilities

• Responds to emergency calls for medical illnesses, traumatic injuries, vehicle crashes, fires and disasters.
• Stabilizes and treats symptoms; provides basic or advanced life support as trained.
• Operates ambulance and transports patients to hospitals when appropriate.
• Documents patient data, treatments and outcomes for billing and EMS records.
• Maintains readiness of ambulance units and required equipment.
• Communicates with dispatch and receiving facilities during transport.
• Ensures biohazard waste is disposed of properly and participates in ongoing training.
