Job summary

Alamance County Government seeks an EMT capable of responding to emergency calls, providing basic life support, and stabilizing patients with a partner in 24-hour EMS operations. The role includes vehicle operation, documentation, and continuous education to maintain licensure and readiness for county EMS services.

Responsibilities include maintaining equipment, transporting patients, and coordinating with dispatch and hospitals.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required and some EMT experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Possession of a valid NC driver’s license is required.
• Certification by the State of North Carolina as an EMT is required.
• Mandatory continuing education sessions provided by the department.

Responsibilities

• Responds to emergency calls for medical illnesses, injuries, crashes, fires, and disasters with a partner to stabilize and treat patients.
• Maintains and inspects ambulance units for readiness and inventory, ensuring cleanliness and readiness.
• Operates emergency medical vehicle to and from scenes and determines the most efficient route.
• Records patient care data and demographic information, documenting reactions to treatment for billing and data collection.
• Initiates patient treatment using initial protocol and EMT scope of practice, including airway management and medications.
• Transports patients safely using stretchers and loading systems.
• Prepares patient care reports for data collection and billing requirements.
• Maintains contact with dispatch and receiving facilities via communication equipment.
• Initiates basic life support following protocols and physician orders.
• Communicates medical conditions with patients, families, and medical staff.
• Drives ambulances in emergency and non-emergency situations.
• Secures and disposes of biohazardous waste.
• Attends continuing education to maintain clinical knowledge and certification.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
