Position Overview: An EMT-B assesses the nature and severity of illness or injury, administers basic medical care and first aid, and transports patients to medical facilities. The role involves working as part of an emergency medical team, ensuring safe transport, communicating vital patient information, and assisting at scenes of accidents or catastrophes. Assistance may also extend to crowd control and supporting medical personnel at healthcare facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Perform EMT duties safely, compassionately, and in accordance with laws, regulations, and policies, including Ohio State EMS standards and CCAN policies.
2. Understand hospital locations, access points, and protocols.
3. Respond promptly to emergency and non-emergency transport requests.
4. Administer Basic Life Support (BLS) as per protocols and medical directives.
5. Assess injuries and illnesses to prioritize care.
6. Communicate effectively with medical professionals for further treatment instructions.
7. Maintain order and safety at scenes, including crowd management and safety considerations.
8. Drive emergency vehicles safely, adhering to traffic laws and regulations.
9. Support a culture of safety and continual competency in skills and knowledge.
10. Complete all documentation accurately and timely, including patient care records and insurance forms.
11. Follow safety and infection control policies, including blood-borne pathogens protocols.
12. Educate and train EMS personnel, trainees, and the public positively and safely.
13. Attend mandatory training sessions, including monthly education and annual skills days.
14. Participate in quality assurance and safety improvement initiatives.
15. Use approved EMS radio language professionally.
16. Respond safely to dispatch instructions, operate emergency vehicles responsibly, and ensure vehicle and equipment readiness.
17. Maintain necessary certifications, licenses, and continuing education credits as required by Ohio EMS standards.
