An EMT-B assesses the nature and extent of illness or injury, administers basic medical care and first aid, and transports patients to medical facilities as part of an emergency medical team. Responsibilities include safe patient transport, communicating patient information to healthcare facilities, assisting in scene management, and supporting emergency treatment procedures.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Perform duties in a safe, dignified, and compassionate manner, including but not limited to:

  • Adhering to regulations, laws, and standards in accordance with Ohio State EMS, Fire, and Transport, and Community Care Ambulance policies.
  • Understanding hospital protocols and access points.
  • Responding promptly to transport requests.
  • Administering Basic Life Support (BLS) at scene and during transport.
  • Assessing injuries and illnesses to prioritize care.
  • Communicating effectively with medical professionals.
  • Maintaining safety and order at scenes.
  • Driving emergency vehicles safely, following all traffic laws and policies.
  • Supporting a safety-first culture and maintaining safety and clinical competencies.
  • Completing all documentation accurately and timely.
  • Following infection control and safety procedures.
  • Educating and training EMS personnel, trainees, and the public.
  • Participating in ongoing education and training sessions.
  • Following quality assurance and safety improvement plans.
  • Using radio communication professionally.
  • Responding to dispatch instructions and operating emergency vehicles safely.
  • Maintaining vehicle and equipment readiness.
  • Completing patient documentation before shift end.
  • Maintaining necessary certifications and licenses.

Education And/or Experience

  • Current Ohio State EMT, AEMT or NREMT certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Valid Ohio State Driver’s license and meet insurance requirements
  • State of Ohio Personal Vehicle Insurance
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator Certification (EVOC)
  • 18 Years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Maintain all certifications and licenses required throughout employment
