Job summary

Mercy Health System is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for full-time work, 36 hours weekly, with a 10am-10:30pm shift. This role provides direct patient care, ambulance operations, and collaboration with physicians and EMS teams to ensure safe, high-quality pre-hospital services.

The position requires a state EMT license, a valid driver’s license, and 19+ years old eligibility, plus BLS, Hazmat, and NIMS certifications.

Qualifications

• Education required: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Current EMT license for the state of employment; valid driver’s license.
• Must be at least 19 years old to operate Mercy EMS vehicles.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers; Hazmat Awareness; NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 within 90 days.
• Preferred ITLS or equivalent training.
• Ability to work varying shifts and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Ensure ambulance and equipment are stocked, clean, maintained, and ready for use. Operate emergency vehicles safely and in compliance with Mercy EMS policies.
• Respond to BLS non emergent transfers out of the hospital
• Assist in patient assessment and deliver pre-hospital care to promote optimal outcomes.
• Demonstrate proficiency in basic life support skills, including splinting, oxygen administration, and assisting paramedics with advanced procedures as authorized.
• Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and emergency personnel; maintain accurate documentation and radio communications.
• Act as a patient advocate, ensuring a professional, caring, and respectful environment.
• Support interagency teamwork and may assume leadership roles when required.
• Promote cost-effective, high-quality patient care.
• Maintain professional growth through continuing education and mandatory training.
• Perform ambulance service duties, including cleaning, maintenance, and accurate reporting.
• Adhere to universal precautions and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Comply with dress code and maintain a clean, professional appearance.
• Meet attendance standards and perform other related duties as assigned.
