Job summary

Mercy Health System is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for part-time, 24 hours per week. The role involves direct patient care, on-scene assessment, and pre-hospital life support in alignment with Mercy EMS standards and the Sisters of Mercy values.

You will stock and maintain ambulances and equipment, respond to transfers, and document care while communicating with medical staff. The position requires a current EMT license, BLS, Hazmat awareness, and flexibility in shifts.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current EMT license for the state of employment.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must be at least 19 years old to operate Mercy EMS vehicles.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers, Hazmat Awareness, NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 within 90 days of hire.
• Preferred Certification: ITLS or equivalent training.
• Ability to work varying shifts and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Ensure ambulance and equipment are stocked, clean, and ready for use; operate ambulances safely and in line with Mercy EMS policies.
• Respond to non-emergent transfers out of the hospital.
• Assist in patient assessment and deliver pre-hospital care.
• Demonstrate proficiency in basic life support, including splinting and oxygen administration.
• Communicate with physicians, nurses, and emergency personnel; maintain documentation and radio communications.
• Act as a patient advocate, ensuring a professional and respectful environment.
• Support interagency teamwork and may assume leadership when required.
• Promote cost-effective, high-quality patient care.
• Attend required training and continuing education.
• Perform ambulance service duties including cleaning and reporting.
• Follow universal precautions and wear PPE.
