Job summary

County Emergency Communications in California seeks an Emergency Medical Dispatcher to handle high-stakes calls, verify locations, collect details, and determine dispatch priorities.

You will coordinate ambulance resources, relay critical information to responders, follow protocols, and participate in quality-review activities. The role may require overnight shifts, weekends, and overtime.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or recognized equivalent required.
• CPR certification may be required; EMT or paramedic credentials are not universal requirements.
• Employer may sponsor training or require EMD certification before appointment.

Responsibilities

• Receive calls involving illness, injury, and other medical emergencies.
• Confirm the patient’s location, callback number, and access details.
• Ask approved questions about the patient’s condition.
• Determine response priority through the authorized medical dispatch system.
• Dispatch or coordinate ambulance resources when included in the assignment.
• Provide protocol-based instructions within current qualifications.
• Relay patient information and scene hazards to responding personnel.
• Document call processing and participate in quality-review activities.
