Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake and Carolinas is seeking a Direct Support Professional to assist individuals with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities in a residential setting. Under supervision, you will provide direct care, help people learn daily living skills, and support safety and well-being according to PCP and program policies.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent (GED or IEP).
• Minimum 1 year of experience in intellectual/developmental disabilities.
• Medication Administration Certification preferred or required after introductory period.
• Must pass trainings and orientation and maintain CMS/government trainings.
• Computer skills required for documentation.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• Problem solving ability.
• Must pass background checks and drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Provides supports identified by the Person-Centered Planning Team.
• Teaches and assists with daily living skills and household tasks.
• Assists individuals to develop skills for independence and PCP goals.
• May assist with medication administration and monitoring.
• May provide First Aid/CPR and crisis intervention.
• Coordinates transportation to appointments and activities.
• Documents activities in the electronic case management system.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
