Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas is seeking a Direct Support Professional to assist individuals with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities in their home and community settings. You will provide direct care, support daily living skills, and document progress in the electronic records system; follow PCP and safety policies.

Training and ongoing supervision are provided. The role emphasizes person-centered approaches, teamwork with the residential staff, and enabling independence

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; IEP familiarity optional.
• Medication Administration Certification is preferred and may be required after intro period.
• Must pass trainings/new hire orientation; CMS or state requirements apply.
• Computer skills are required for documentation; clear written/verbal communication expected.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct care and support to individuals with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities in home/community settings.
• Teaches and assists with daily living skills; follows Person-Centered Plan.
• Monitors medication administration and supports independence in taking medications.
• Documents activities and progress in electronic records; maintains safety and care standards.
• Participates in team meetings and trainings; supports program compliance and safety procedures.
