Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas seeks a Direct Support Professional to provide compassionate, person-centered care to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Under supervision, you will assist with daily living activities, meal planning, budgeting, and establishing independence.

You will document progress in the client records and help individuals participate in community activities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, and/or IEP required.
• 1 year of experience in the field of intellectual/developmental disabilities (exceptions may be made).
• Medication Administration Certification is preferred, but may be required by end of introductory period.
• Must pass trainings and new hire orientation; maintain required certifications and trainings.
• Background checks and drug testing required by local/state authorities.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and support to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
• Assist with daily living activities: meals, budgeting, shopping, household tasks.
• Support safe medication practices and aide independence in taking medications.
• Communicate and document activities and behaviors in the client record/EHR.
• Participate in Person-Centered Planning Team and coordinate with families and other providers.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
