Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas seeks a Direct Support Professional to assist individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities in their homes. You will provide direct care, teach daily living skills, monitor medications, and document activities in the electronic system.

The role requires a high school diploma, 1 year of related experience, and willingness to complete trainings. This is a part-time on-site position in Chesapeake, VA with a focus on person-centered support

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of experience with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
• Medication administration certification preferred, may be required after intro period.
• Pass trainings and orientation; maintain CMS trainings and certifications.
• Computer skills required for documentation.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Background checks and drug testing required; bilingualism a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and support to people living in their home.
• Assist individuals to learn daily living skills and participate in PCP.
• Monitor medication administration and support independence.
• Document services and behaviors in the electronic records.
• Plan, coordinate, and participate in social activities and routines.
• Attend required trainings and keep safety procedures up to date.
