Job summary

The County of Northumberland is seeking a Benefits Specialist to administer and coordinate employee benefit programs across county departments. This role acts as the main liaison between employees, Human Resources, and providers to ensure accurate enrollment, timely issue resolution, and regulatory compliance.

The position also manages FMLA processes, eligibility determinations, required documentation, and confidential records.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school degree or the equivalent.
• Equivalent combination of education, and training or associate's degree in HR.
• Previous experience in employee benefits administration, FMLA or leave administration, payroll, or human resources.

Responsibilities

• Administer and coordinate employee benefit programs including health, dental, vision, life insurance, and other plans.
• Serve as primary liaison between employees, Human Resources, insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and benefit providers.
• Administer and track FMLA, determine eligibility, communicate with employees, and maintain confidential records.
• Enter, update, and maintain employee premium-share amounts in the County payroll platform; assist payroll as assigned.
• Coordinate with payroll to ensure benefit deductions are accurately reflected and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain confidential FMLA and medical documentation separately from general personnel records.
