Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in Asheville, NC is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support the team in triage, treatments, and monitoring across ER cases. You’ll work closely with licensed technicians and veterinarians to deliver high‑quality care and comfort to pets and their families.

You’ll participate in anesthesia setup, patient monitoring, and essential nursing tasks while advancing toward specialized skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR knowledge.
• Able to lift up to 25 kg and work in a noisy environment with strong odors.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics.
• Set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation with credentialed staff.
• Manage IV fluids, blood products, and medication administration.
• Support both outpatient and inpatient care and participate in patient rounds.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER certification (training provided).
• Grow into advanced responsibilities through guided training pathways.
