Job summary

VEG ER for Pets is seeking Veterinary Nursing Shift Leads to keep shifts on track, ensure top-tier patient care, and support VEGgies on the floor. You’ll lead with heart, coach teammates, and maintain smooth operations in a fast-paced ER environment.

You’ll coordinate breaks, manage floor workflow, and work with leadership on coverage needs. Ideal candidates have CN/CVT credentials and a passion for mentorship in veterinary emergency medicine.

Qualifications

• CVT/RVT/LVT credential preferred or in VEG Credentialing Support Program
• 1+ year experience as veterinary technician or assistant; emergency medicine preferred
• Strong grasp of clinical workflow and team dynamics
• Confident navigating floor operations while guiding others with empathy
• Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
• Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays on rotating basis
• Leadership instincts and ownership mindset
• Proficient with practice management software and EMR
• Able to stand for prolonged hours and lift up to 25 kg with assistance
• Ability to work in a noisy environment with strong odors

Responsibilities

• Keep a clear pulse on patient status, team bandwidth, and shift-wide needs
• Manage daily workflow and pivot when the unexpected hits
• Ensure shift roles are assigned and adapted with clarity and care
• Jump in on the floor when help is needed—no task is too small
• Coordinate breaks, manage conflict resolution, and model calm under pressure
• Lead shift transitions, team huddles, and end-of-day wrap-ups
• Communicate clearly, direct questions appropriately, and elevate key issues
• Help the team turn downtime into learning time and growth opportunities
• Flag incidents with transparency and growth mindset
• Collaborate with hospital leadership on coverage, call-outs, and ongoing coaching
