Job summary

VEG is seeking a Veterinary Nursing Shift Lead to coordinate emergency care on rotating nights, weekends, and holidays. You will supervise on-floor operations, coach staff, and ensure top-tier patient care while maintaining team morale.

Ideal candidates are CVTs or equivalent with 1+ year emergency experience, strong communication, and a mindset to grow professionally within a fast-paced ER setting.

Qualifications

• Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT) or enrolled in the VEG Credentialing Support Program preferred
• 1+ years of experience in a veterinary technician or assistant role; emergency or specialty medicine preferred
• Strong grasp of clinical workflow and team dynamics
• Leadership instincts and ownership mindset with a desire to grow professionally

Responsibilities

• Keep a clear pulse on patient status, team bandwidth, and shift-wide needs
• Manage daily workflow and adapt to the unexpected
• Ensure shift roles are assigned and adapted with clarity
• Lead on-floor coaching and team transitions
• Coordinate breaks and resolve conflicts calmly
• Oversee end-of-shift wrap-ups and handoffs
• Communicate clearly and elevate key issues to leadership
• Turn downtime into learning opportunities for the team
• Flag incidents with transparency and growth mindset
• Collaborate with hospital leadership on coverage and coaching
