Job summary

VEG ER for Pets in Austin, TX is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our busy, 24/7 ER team. You’ll support the medical staff, comfort pet parents, and learn the ropes in real time—from triage to treatments and the tail wags.

This role offers clear growth paths toward credentialed technician status or other ER career goals, with hands-on mentoring, continuing education, and opportunities to expand into anesthesia, ultrasound, and other advanced care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR software understanding.

Responsibilities

• Triaging incoming patients and guiding them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics (bloodwork, imaging).
• Set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation with clinicians.
• Manage IV fluids, transfusions, and medication administration.
• Support throughout outpatient or inpatient care and rounds.
