Job summary

VEG is hiring an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to be in the heart of the action from day one, supporting the team, comforting pet parents, and learning the ropes in real time. The role lays a path from assistant to credentialed technician with guided training and mentorship.

You’ll work in a fast-paced, open-concept ER setting, with opportunities to participate in anesthesia support, ultrasound, and other advanced skills as you progress.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program enrollment is a plus.
• 1+ year of veterinary assistant experience, emergency/specialty is a bonus.
• Proficient in basic computer skills and EMR software.
• Excellent communication with pet parents and team.
• Ability to stand long hours and lift up to 25 kg; work in a noisy environment.

Responsibilities

• Greet and triage patients, guiding them to appropriate care.
• Support treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics.
• Assist anesthesia and sedation under supervision.
• Set up IV fluids, transfusions, and meds.
• Participate in client rounds and maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER Certified Rescuer training.
• Grow into advanced roles via training pathways.
