Job summary

VEG is hiring a Part-time Emergency Veterinary Assistant to be in the heart of the action from day one, supporting teams, comforting pet parents, and learning on the job. You’ll handle triage, treatments, and care coordination alongside credentialed technicians and veterinarians.

This role offers growth pathways toward credentialed technician status, anesthesia support, ultrasound, and guided training. You’ll work in a fast-paced ER environment with opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR familiarity.
• Excellent communicator when collaborating with pet parents and your team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and medical equipment.
• Ability to stand for prolonged hours, lift up to 25 kg, and work on floor.
• Willingness to work in noisy environments with odors; nights, weekends, holidays.
• Works well with diverse teams.

Responsibilities

• Triaging incoming patients and guiding them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics.
• Set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation with clinicians.
• Manage IV fluids, transfusions, and meds.
• Support in outpatient or inpatient care from exam room to treatment area.
• Join rounds and maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER certification (training provided).
• Grow into advanced tasks such as anesthesia support, ultrasound, and catheterization.
