Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced ER team. You’ll triage, comfort pet parents, and support treatments from day one, with ongoing training to grow toward credentialed technician roles.

You will work alongside credentialed technicians and veterinarians, assisting with anesthesia, monitoring, and emergency care while expanding your clinical skills through dedicated training pathways.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and an understanding of practice management software and electronic medical record keeping.
• Excellent communicator when collaborating with pet parents and your team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and medical equipment.
• Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and lift up to 25 kg (assistance up to 40 kg).
• Willingness to work in a noisy environment with odors.
• Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and provide steady support while triaging patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics (bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, oxygen support).
• Work with licensed technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation cases.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Be present throughout outpatient or inpatient care and in exam rooms and treatment areas.
• Join rounds to maintain continuity of care.
